New Year's Resolutions!

Hi everyone, long time no speak. As you can imagine I have been caught up with all of the holiday festivities and have sadly neglected my blog. I hope you all had wonderful christmases and are bringing in the new year tonight with your friends and families!

Tonight is New Years Eve and I am spending it with my friends at a local pub, there is sure to be lots of drinking, dancing and general merryment! As tradition goes, I thought I would share with you all my new year's resolutions. I make a few every year and inevitably I always fail to keep them. And this year is no different, I make my resolutions with the best of intentions and maybe this year is the year i'll be successful!

So, here goes:

1. See my friends more! - I count myself lucky to have my friends very close to where I live, that being said, I don't think we do enough together. This year I am going to organise more things, instead of waiting for opportunities to fall into my lap, I'm going to be proactive! First up on the agenda is to plan and execute a trip to Edinburgh for my birthday in May.

2. Healthy body! Healthy mind! - This year my resolution is not going to be lose weight, diet and eat properly, give up drinking....blah, blah, blah! Because this has worked so well for me before right! Hahaha! No, this year my goal is to aim for a generally more healthy lifestyle. Not stress myself out over the latest diet craze or the fact that I never went to the gym 20 million times a week like I said I was going to. If I'm more positive about getting fit and healthy gradually over time, everything else will just fall into place. I've come to realise that cutting out everything you like will never work, its all about finding the balance! Although this will have to start tomorrow due to the copious amounts of alcohol I plan to consume tonight!

3. Keep my flat tidy! - This is definitely something I suck at! I can't lie, I make the most mess one person can possibly make. No joke... So, pull yourself together Charlotte, you are 23 years old, you most certainly can keep your flat clean and tidy. When you take off your clothes, put them in the washing basket not on the floor! When you cook, wash up straight away and it won't build up! Vacuum once a week! Clean bathroom and kitchen, once a week! This is not rocket science, YOU CAN DO IT!!! Okay, pep talk over with! This is definitely the one resolution, I'm determined to keep.

and finally, its the big one!

4. Stop SHOPPING! - This year I would really like to pay off my credit cards, save a little money, get a Louis Vuitton handbag and Christian Louboutin shoes and have nice holidays. But my problem is that I shop, buying stupid little things that I don't need which clutter up my flat and which all add up to hundreds of pounds over the year which would easily buy me a LV handbag! This means cutting out online shopping and to stop watching so many youtube hauls.

So, there you have it. Do you think I can do it??? I really hope so! Post your new years resolutions in the comments, I really want to hear what your goals for the new year are.

To everyone celebrating New Year's tonight, I hope you have a really fantastic time and I wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful 2010.

Lush Skincare Review

So I promised a review of the Lush skincare I mentioned in a previous post. Honestly, I have to say i'm not as in love with it as I thought I would be. I haven't noticed any difference in the look and feel of my skin, there hasn't been the improvement I was looking for.

The Angels on Bare Skin cleanser has made no difference what so ever and if i'm completely honest it is a complete faff to use. When I'm rushing to get ready in the morning and trying not to be late for work, I don't have time to smoosh the cleanser to a paste with a little water, massage in, flannel off and rinse, etc... Its just too time consuming when i'm after a quick wash and go cleanser. I don't think i'll be trying this again!

The Enzymion moisturiser is my favourite of the things I bought. I really do love it, it smells great and its a very lightwight lotion so it sinks right in. It works really well under my makeup and definitly helps to control my very oily t-zone somewhat. This one I would definitly re-purchase again and again.

Now, while I do like the Mask of Magnaminty, i'm not sure if its not a little too harsh for my skin. My skin doesn't feel too great after it, I think one of the ingredients in the mask irritates my skin. Which is not the masks fault but my own dodgy skins fault. Grrrr! So i'll be staying away from this for a little while, but I would try it again in future because I did used to love it and used on a regular basis.

Sooo... onwards and upwards. On to a new regime, last night I was watching some youtube videos when this gem popped up in my subscription box:

After watching this and being unhappy with my Lush regime (and i'm a sucker for all things beauty related that promises results for my skin!) I had to order this holiday set Blair talks about in her video.

It is the Clinique 3-Step System. Its a great set, although its a lot more expensive to buy in the UK than it is in the US. I did my maths and the set would cost £36.56 ($58.50/by the current exchange rate of 1.60) if I bought it in America. Yet over here it cost me £60 which is a massive difference, but i've always known Clinique is a lot cheaper to buy in the states. So if you are going on holiday to the states over Christmas take advantage of the cheaper price!

Annnnd of couse, I couldn't resist throwing in a couple more products. I got 2 more products. The All About Eyes Eye Cream which is good for all skin types.

It has excellent reviews on the website and promises to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Two things I suffer from. It also helps to reduce the apperance of fine lines and wrinkles. While i'm not concerned about aging right now, it can't hurt can it.

Finally I got the Exfoliating Scrub for Combination/Oily skin. According to the Clinique website it "Helps to control oil-related problems; skin looks translucent, clearer, brighter; takes edge off tiny lines and wrinkles; wakes up tired skin. Better stimulation; gives a light reflecting glow to mature skin. Allows better makeup application and moisturiser to absorb more easily. Promotes even skin tone refines texture. Rounded granules will not scratch the skin. Rinses off easily and leaves the skin clean and refreshed." All of this sounds good to me, if it is as good as it says then  me and my skin should be getting on like a house on fire pretty soon.

And because I got 2 or more products I got a free makeup bag of my choice and 3 deluxe treats for free. Bonus! Check out the offer HERE. I chose the Silver makeup bag with the Lipstick (Its called Twilight, of course I had to get it!), the mascara, because I love sample sizes of mascara, they fit in my makeup bags much better for travel. My last choice went to the Take The Day Off makeup remover. Its one i've wanted to try for a while, so now I get to without buying the full size. If you decide to take advantage of this offer, let me know what treats you got.

Okay, so thats it for this post. Of course i'll be reviewing my progress as I go along! Hopefully i'll have the same results as Blair.

IMATS Toronto Anyone???

IMATS, IMATS, IMATS... It's all that has been going through my mind for the past 2 weeks or so. This is because I'm going to be at the Toronto show this Saturday. For any one reading who has no clue what I'm talking about, IMATS stands for the International Makeup Artist Trade Show. It's a huge gathering of the makeup community that happens a few times a year in different cities around the world where lots and lots of different makeup brands showcase their products and individuality.
There are a ton of amazing demonstrations and master classes for you to learn and develop your own makeup skills and the best part for me is that you are able to purchase an exciting array of amazing, quality products for great prices. Most if not all of the exhibitors offer their products at a 'show' discount. Often as much as 40 or 50 percent off.
Any one can attend these shows, you don't have to be a professional makeup artist or anything. As long as you have a ticket you can attend. For all the information on the shows including locations, dates, ticket information, exhibitor list, guest speakers, etc... Please visit, it has all the details you need if you are thinking of going to any of the shows.
So as I said at the beginning, I am going to be attending the Toronto show this Saturday the 21st November. I am going to Canada with my mom and brother for 5 nights so we can do some Xmas shopping, eat some nice food, check out the sights, we have a day trip booked to the Niagra Falls. I have read this is an incredible sight, not to be missed.
I'm going to the IMATS Show on my own, my mom and brother would be bored within 5 minutes. Makeup is not their thing! It also means I can spend as much as I like without anyone tellling me how crazy I am. My brother already thinks my makeup collection is out of control after seeing it in all it's glory when he built my new bedroom shelves for me recently. I obviously disagree with him, lol!
If you are lucky enough to be going to the show and you see me there, please come and say hi, I would love to talk with my fellow makeup enthusiasts. I know Pursebuzz(Elessa) and Enkore(Koren) are going to be there, I hope I get to say hello to them. I really want to see Koren's masterclass with Naked Cosmetics. They are one of the brands I am most looking forward to. I have been watching all of the YouTube IMATS hauls, making lists of everything I'm interested in and want more information about. The brands I'm most excited about are Naked Cosmetics, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Yaby, Ben Nye And Make Up For Ever. Also, one of the most recent brands added to the list of exhibitors are Nars, I really hope they have a good discount because I would love to get a few blushes and I'm dying to try the new sheerglow foundation.
Even writing this now is getting me all excited. I'm like Charlie once he'd won his golden ticket, waiting outside the gates of the factory, just dying to get inside. I wonder what treasures await me. I have heard alot about the Parian Spirit brush cleanser, I hope they have a booth because I'd like to try it. I'm absolutly getting some Naked pigments and OCC lip tars. I'm thinking about getting the MUFE flash colour pallet and maybe some MUFE lip products. If you have something that you think I should definitly get, please post a comment for me. I don't want to miss out on anything once im there. I have been saving my money for a while so expect a very big haul video once I get back.
Whew, I think I've talked enough about the show for now. If you are going, have a great time, I hope to see you there!
Disclaimer: I have been without Internet at home since Tuesday and it's not being fixed until Monday, so I've had to type all this out on my iPhone and send via email to Blogger. So apolgies if this is formatted wrong, etc... And sorry for the lack of links and pictures, I will update the post with these as soon as I'm back online!

Review: Barry M Dazzle Dusts

I mentioned earlier in my retail therapy session that I went to Boots as well as Lush and these two are what I got.

These are the Barry M Dazzle Dusts in Mushroom (No. 51) and Chocolate (No.53). They were on special offer, two for £6.99. This is a really good deal as they are usually £4.40 each.

They are the first Dazzle Dusts i've ever bought for myself, I usually don't buy drugstore eyeshadows for myself as I generally find they are not as good quality as more high end brands. Drugstore eyeshadows are often a chalky consistency with poor colour pay off. That said, these are not like that. These have a silky smooth formula and an amazing colour pay off. They come in a huge variety of shades, which are best showcased here on the actual BarryM Cosmetics website. The best thing about them for me is that they blend so well, with minimum effort, both together and with other products from different brands. I have taken some close up swatches so you can see the colours in more detail, these are just swatched with my fingers on the back of my bare hand, no primer or anything like that.

Mushroom (left) and Chocolate (right)

With Flash
(Mushroom Bottom/Chocolate Top)

No Flash
(Mushroom Bottom/Chocolate Top)

Both of these colours are really great to just put all over the lid with some black eyeliner and mascara for a quick, gorgeous eye look. Make sure you use a primer underneath to ensure longevity throughout the whole day and/or night.

If you are in the UK, you will find BarryM at most Superdrugs and a lot of the larger Boots stores. There  are sometimes 3 for 2 offers on, so make sure to take advantage of these offers. If you need to order online, the shipping costs are £1.95 for orders up to £20.00 and any orders over £20.00 the shipping costs increase to £2.95. I think the special offers and no shipping costs make it more worthwhile to go into a shop rather than order online.

Although BarryM are a UK based company they do offer worldwide International Shipping. At the moment it is £5.00 flat rate to Europe and £8.00 flat rate to countries outside of Europe.

Also, before ordering, make sure you check google for any discount or promotional codes going round. You can often get money off or a free product with your order if you just google 'BarryM promotional codes'.

I hope this review was helpful to you, I think they are definitely worth the money and a good way to build up your collection of colours without spending fortunes. If you have any 'must have' colours I should get, leave them in the comments below, I can always be persuaded to buy more makeup. Lol!

MAC Holiday Collections - What are you getting?

Yesterday I clicked on to the MAC website for my daily makeup fix, a quick browse to add to my mental wishlist. To my surprise, as recently I have not been up to date with all of the new MAC collections, all the new Holiday Collections were out. I had a quick look at everything and to be honest, not a lot of it appealed to me. I've gone more into detail about each collection below.

Magic, Mirth and Mischief Colour Collection

This collection doesn't appeal to me at all, MAC's mineralize products have never been my favourite, and there is nothing that stands out as something I must have. Each mineralize eyeshadow has that chunky gold or silver part which I think is awful, there are some nice colours but they are just not special enough to put up with the glitter section. The lipsticks and glosses again are nothing special, I have a million others in my collection that are just like them and after a bad first experience of mineralze blushes this is definitly one part of the collection i'm going to skip!

Magic, Mirth and Mischief Colour Collection - Lip & Eye Bags

I have to say, I really like these. If I was a new collector i'd be all over these. But as it is, I already have at least one of the products in nearly every kit, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy them. But I do love them, this one on the left is the Put A Spell On You  pink lip bag. Its my favourite and if I didn't already have baby sparks dazzleglass, it would definitly be in my cart!

I may still get the Naughty Noir eye bag, because I want the shimmertime pigment and although I have a ton of black eyeliners, I don't have blacktrack. I'm leaving this one in the maybe column.

Magic, Mirth and Mischief Colour Collection - Lip & Eye Bags and Brush Bags

The eyeshadow and lip pallets seem VERY similar to last years. There are no unusual colours in them, and speaking as a girl with a lot of MAC regular eyeshadows, i'm pretty sure i'd find a good dupe for all of the colours in these pallets. But, if you are new and just starting out with makeup these are a perfect way to get a lot of MAC colours for a good price. They are also great to ask for as christmas gifts. I don't personally like lipsticks that are in pallets like this, I'm a tube girl. So another part of the holiday collection I will definitly be skipping.

The brush bags are definitly something to steer clear of, I bought all three last year and was so disappointed in them. They are basically mass produced crap. They have none of the quality of the regular MAC brushes, they are not handmade and therefore the brushes are very different to their namesake. The bristles are scratchy and the actual handles and barrels are poorly made. My honest opinion is to save your money up and buy one regular MAC brush at a time to build up your collection. It will be worth it in the end.

Finally on to the...

 Mischief Makers

I have saved the best till last, I think these are the heroes of the whole collection. I absolutley adore the pigment and lipglass sets. I'm a little disappointed they don't have the eyeliner set again this year, but they have added an extra pigment set.

I am definitly going to get the Cool Capers and Sexpot Smokey pigment sets, I have been dying to get the Reflects Transparent Teal glitters for ages, and its in the cool capers set. I am undecided on the Haute High Jinks pigment set, i'll to have a look at it in person. But I probably will get it. Lol! I am an addict after all...

I won't be getting any of the lipglass sets, purely because I have put myself on a lipgloss ban. I have soooo many, I need to use them all up before they start to go off. I got the sets last year and they are definitly good value for money. I do recommend getting them.

So, what are your thoughts on this years holiday collections?, will you be getting anything? Post your wishlists in the comments!

Retail Therapy @ Lush

Today I was in a lovely happy mood at work, feeling good after my Bodyjam workout yesterday. But then the sandwich guys got my order completely wrong and my mom ordered Euros instead of Dollars. We then had to wait 40mins for the Travelex lady to get together the dollars. So I got back to the office starving, expecting my sausage sandwich to be waiting for me on my desk, only to find it missing from our order and my lunch salad looking like death. Grrrrr... I was not happy.

So the point of this story is that I tootled off into town and hit up Boots and Lush!! Of course I picked up a couple of things, I have been fairly unhappy with the state of my skin lately and am hoping what I got will be my miracle cure.... Hmmmmm only time will tell!

Right, on to what I got...

I started with their Angles On Bare Skin cleanser, it costs £5.42 for 100g. Lush have filled this cleanser with loads of really good ingredients and a lot less chemicals. It has essential oils of Rose to soothe any redness or sensitivity and Lavender to balance out any oilyness or blemishes. Sounds good to me!

Next, I picked up Enzymion Moisturiser (£11.98/45g), I have used this before and loved it. It has a ton of natural fruity ingredients to brighten skin tone and mattify even the most oily of skins. From past experience, I have to say for the most part it does exactly that. I really recommend this for people with oily skins, its a really light cream and sinks right in without leaving me a greasy mess. Another reason to part with your hard earned cash is that it smells amazing, great for a citrussy/fruity scent lover like myself.

The last skincare item I picked up is the Mask of Magnaminty (£4.09/125g), according to the Lush Times it is a "Reviving minty mask to deep cleanse. Leaves your skin feeling fantastically fresh." At the moment I have a particularly bad breakout on my jaw and forehead, I thought this would be a great remedy to really clean out my pores, i'm going to be trying this out tonight.

Snow Fairy, Snow Fairy... Where for art thou Snow Fairy (£2.95/100g). I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shower gel. It comes out once a year for christmas and I have to stock up. I get 2 of the big bottles each year and they usually last me until the next christmas. It is my all time favourite shower gel. Its bright pink and has iridescent sparkles with a candy floss fragrance. A-MAY-ZING! The sparkles do not rub off on you, for those not wanting to get out of the shower looking like a disco ball. If you haven't tried this yet, go get some right now, I promise you'll love it!

Finally, I got the Godiva Solid Shampoo Bar (£5.37/55g). It is a shampoo and conditioner in one, which I thought would be perfect for the gym, especially after swimming as my hair gets so dry. It has a strong scent of Jasmine, the same fragrance as Flying Fox shower gel. It has chunks of solid cocoa butter in it, which will be great for my thick, dry and frizzy hair. Can't wait to try this out after Aqua Aerobics on Thursday.

So there you have it, my Lush haul. I will be reviewing these items in a couple of weeks when i've had a chance to use everything properly. If you don't have a Lush store near you, you can check out the Lush website. They have the full range of products and use popcorn to pack your orders! Just click HERE and choose your country's flag.

Thanks so much for reading and please leave me any comments or questions you have!

Welcome One and All!

So, I finally got myself a blog. I hope you guys like it. I've worked hard to get the templates etc... and I now have everything where I want it. =)
