Film Review: The Lovely Bones

On Sunday night my friends and I went to see The Lovely Bones at our local cinema. I have bought the book but purposefully haven't read it because I wanted to see the film first. However, everyone I know who has read the book, says its one of the best books they have ever read. Needless to say I had high expectations for the film adaptation, especially since I found out that Peter Jackson (of Lord of The Rings fame) was directing it.

Without giving too much away about the plot, I can honestly say this is the worst film I've seen in a long time. Not quite as bad as the remake of Fame, but not too far off either. The story progressed so slowly, it just felt like the same scene was playing over and over again. The film was incredibly boring to watch and just too wishy-washy all the way through. It seemed like they wanted to drag out the ending so much, when in reality the film could have been an hour shorter. I definitly wasn't the only one to think this, the whole cinema had started chatting at least 20 minutes before the film ended. In summary, not one to watch again and I definitly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

  1. Hi Charlotte, I've just come across your blog and immediately went to your tags and picked lovely bones. I love that book and have thought about watching the film but didn't think I would enjoy it. It's interesting to find out that you didn't like it without even reading the book.

I've blogged a bit about this here:

  2. Hi hel,

Thanks for your comment. I am actually reading the book at the moment and am liking it much more than the film. I really think the film doesn't do the book any justice at all. Great Blog!

    Charlotte xx
