Why Do You Blog?!?

This is something i've been wondering a lot about lately, I see an increasing amount of bloggers on twitter who never seem happy with their blogs. Either they don't have enough followers, or they want more comments or they dislike all the negativity and so on and so on. And I just don't get it, I know that blogging does take up a lot of time and effort, but at the end of the day its just a blog. Its a very tiny piece of the internet that I don't think is worth getting upset over. I just wanted to share why I blog and what I get out of it.

I have either been blogging or posting youtube videos for probably about 3 years now and while I haven't ever reached 'Blog-Stardom' or whatever, I still get the same enjoyment from it all. I don't mind if I don't get comments on a post or I don't have a bajillion followers, of course it's always nice to have them but that's not why I do it. I blog because I want to, I blog because it makes me happy, it's something I like to do, I love to plan posts and get excited about the lightbulb flashing in my head when I think of something I want to post. I take great pleasure sitting down at my computer for a couple of hours and writing about something frivolous or girly or something no one in my family is interested in, like makeup or fashion or cooking! I think it was Kelly that said a while ago, that you should blog like nobody is reading, which is what i've always tried to do.

I know that for me blogging is a hobby, it's never going to pay the bills, it's never going to be put first, in the grand scheme of things it's a very small part of my life and is a long way down the list of  things I have to think about after my home, my job, my friends and my family. I don't have enough time to keep up a regular routine of blogposts, but c'est la vie. I do as much as I can and I don't stress myself out about it. Sometimes I wish that I had time to sit around all day blogging until my hearts content, but thats not how the real world works.

I just read this back and I think I may have gone off the topic a bit at some point, Lol! I want to leave you with this, if you are a blogger or want to start a blog, then do it because YOU want to, not to fit in, not for followers, not for praise, just for yourself. That way you'll always be happy with what you end up with.

  1. i totally agree with you. when i see people that i follow who are mad about that stuff, like followers, stats, comments. i just unfollow them.

i don't think the point of blogging is to try and make money / be blog famous.

i blog because i love it. i love just expressing my style, my thoughts on fashion, my finds, even if no one reads it, i can go back on my posts and see how i have evolved in how i dress. and maybe someday, i can show my kids (so early to think about that) and they can see how i was. and i just love expressing myself in that way.

i love how blogging is for you as well, that's how it should be! and if money / blog famous comes for someone that is great! :)

  2. Oh no this is so true! I see so many people that seem to be really unhappy with blogging and stuff and I just don't understand why they'd carry it on if they were that unhappy with it all. I started blogging because I wanted somewhere to release all my ideas and have a place to talk about all the things I love as I'd guess my friends would be pretty annoyed if all I spoke about was what I loved! I like that I hve a space where I can be creative and get stuff of my chest :)

This is such a great post! :)

  5. Hey, so true charlotte. This is why I like zine-ing. I like the process as well as the outcome and whatever else comes with it is just extra. If you do it to make a profit then it's not a zine anymore as it's internally motivating rather than externally motivated!

I also love forgetting you blog and catching up on everything after a few weeks, and seening me in there too

    guess who

  6. I blog as a way to give back. Of course, there's the other side of me that's also looking for a small side income, but making really good money on a blog takes a lot of work and a lot of time. Expecting to make a full time salary is very ambitious and requires a lot of business know-how and planning. Right now I blog because I’ve learned so much from other blogs and wanted to give back in my own way. I also find so much cool stuff around the internet and learn something new everyday, so I want a way to share that, beyond just social networking.
